FOOTBALL - Stade Rennes SRFC Mercato: A € 8m Goalkeeper to replace Edouard Mendy

Edouard Mendy's future should be written far from Stade Rennes SRFC. Chelsea who want it should place a new offer on the table of Rennes leaders. The Bretons are already on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to replace the Senegal international.

SRFC: Edouard Mendy's replacement found in Spain

Bought 4 million euros at the Stade de Reims, Edouard Mendy is turning into a gold mine for the managers of the Stade Rennes. The latter will be bought by Chelsea who have already offered 25 million euros to Rennes. However, SRFC officials have yet to accept the London club's offer which is expected to be changed very soon. A new proposal including bonuses is expected to round the price of Edouard Mendy's transfer to 30 million euros.

And while the SRFC and the Blues are leading the negotiations on this issue, the Breton club does not stand idly by. He has already activated his networks to find a worthy successor to the Senegalese. To do this, an unexpected lead is being explored. Stade Rennes approached Granada for Rui Silva (26), their Portuguese goalkeeper. Rennes recruiters find the native of Agua Santa (Portugal) perfect to take over from Edouard Mendy. And the operation is so serious that an offer has already been made by the SRFC, proof that they are truly on the verge of relinquishing their own goalkeeper at Chelsea. Some 8 million euros were reportedly offered in La Liga’s third last year. And even if the player was estimated at 15 million euros by his leaders, Rennes can take advantage of an unfavorable situation in Granada to afford Rui Silva.

Rui Silva, why Stade Rennes must step up

Indeed, Rui Silva is not very happy with his leaders. They have not yet renewed his contract which expires in June. They were in no hurry to offer him that guarantee for his future until Betis Sevilla came after him. Besides this resentment of the player who did not feel sufficiently considered by his current leaders, which makes him an easy goalkeeper to convince, the imminent end of his contract places the Bretons in a situation of strength. If Granada were to be uncompromising, Rennes could wait until mid-season to sign the player. This would then come to the SRFC without this club paying any transfer compensation.

The small problem with the latter scenario is that another club has already considered it. Betis Sevilla, who do not play any European competition, have an agreement with Rui Silva to sign him in January. Stade Rennes are therefore forced to snatch the transfer of the goalkeeper this summer to cancel the pre-agreement.
